China's first batch of earthquake relief supplies to Afghanistan arrive in Herat earthquake-stricken area

On October 15, the first batch of earthquake relief supplies provided by the Chinese government to Afghanistan arrived in Herat City, Herat Province, northwestern Afghanistan. The supplies included tents, folding beds, thick blankets, clothing, etc., which were urgently needed by the Afghan people. Disaster relief materials worth about 500,000 yuan provided by the Red Cross Society of China arrived at the same time.

On the same day, the handover ceremony of China's first batch of earthquake relief supplies to Afghanistan was held at the Ministry of Disaster Management of Afghanistan. Zhao Xing, Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mullah Mohammad Abbas Akhund, Acting Minister of Disaster Management of Afghanistan, and Abdul Latif Sabir, Under Secretary General in operational of Afghan Red Crescent Society attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Zhao said that, in order to help people in the disaster area tide over the difficulties, the Chinese government decided to provide 30 million yuan (approximately US$4.1 million) in emergency humanitarian material assistance, which fully demonstrates the Chinese people's friendship towards the Afghan people. We believe that with the joint efforts of the Afghan government and all walks of life, the people in the disaster area will definitely be able to overcome the difficulties and rebuild their homes.

Mullah Mohammad Abbas Akhund said that Afghanistan is carrying out emergency relief and post-disaster reconstruction work in Herat, distributing relief materials to people in the disaster area and building temporary shelters. The humanitarian aid supplies provided by China are very timely. Afghanistan is deeply grateful for this and will always remember it.

Abdul Latif Sabir briefed the earthquake relief efforts of the Red Crescent Society of Afghanistan. He thanked the Chinese government, the Red Cross Society of China and the Chinese people for their selfless and valuable assistance during the most difficult period of Afghanistan.
